Firestopping Works Completed at Local Care Home

Ensuring the safety of residents and staff is always the top priority in any care environment. Recently, our team successfully completed a comprehensive passive fire protection project at a local care home, delivering essential firestopping works to improve the building’s compartmentation and overall fire safety compliance.

Project Overview

Care homes require particularly robust fire safety measures due to the vulnerability of residents and the need for safe evacuation procedures. Our project focused on installing and upgrading passive fire protection systems throughout key areas of the building to ensure fire and smoke are effectively contained in the event of a fire.

Working closely with site management and other contractors, our team carried out a range of firestopping installations while minimising disruption to the daily operations of the care facility.

Firestopping Penetrations

A key element of the works involved sealing service penetrations where pipes, cables, and ductwork pass through fire-rated walls and floors. These openings can allow fire and smoke to spread rapidly if not properly protected.

Our operatives installed certified firestop systems designed to reinstate the fire rating of the compartment walls and floors. Each penetration was carefully assessed and sealed using tested materials suitable for the specific service type and fire rating requirements.

Cavity Barrier Installation

The project also included the installation of cavity barriers within concealed voids in the building structure. These barriers are crucial in preventing the hidden spread of fire through ceiling voids, wall cavities, and other concealed spaces.

By installing compliant cavity barriers at key compartment lines, our team helped ensure that fire cannot easily travel unseen through the building fabric.

Compliance and Quality Assurance

All works were completed in accordance with current fire safety regulations and industry best practice, ensuring the building maintains the required levels of compartmentation. Detailed records and photographic evidence were also compiled to support compliance and provide a clear audit trail for the client.

Supporting Safer Care Environments

Projects like this highlight the importance of passive fire protection in healthcare and residential care settings. Properly installed firestopping and cavity barriers can significantly slow the spread of fire, providing valuable time for evacuation and emergency response.

We are proud to support care providers by helping create safer environments for residents, staff, and visitors.
