We are incredibly proud to showcase the exceptional passive fire protection work recently completed by our operative, Aaron, at the GWR site in Plymouth.

The project involved carefully removing areas of existing, outdated firestopping before preparing and reinstating the service penetrations using suitable tested firestopping systems. Each penetration was completed to achieve the required 30-minute or 60-minute fire-resistance rating, depending on its location and specification.

Working within an operational environment requires more than technical ability. It demands careful planning, attention to detail and an exceptionally tidy approach. Aaron demonstrated all three throughout the works.

Careful Removal and Reinstatement

Removing old or unsuitable firestopping must be completed carefully to avoid damaging the surrounding substrate, services or construction.

Aaron methodically removed the existing materials, cleaned and prepared each opening, and installed the specified firestopping systems in accordance with the relevant installation requirements.

The work included:

• Removal of existing and unsuitable firestopping materials

• Preparation and cleaning of service penetrations

• Installation of tested passive fire protection systems

• Reinstatement to the required 30-minute and 60-minute fire ratings

• Clear identification and photographic recording of completed works

• A clean, consistent and professional finish throughout

IFC-Certified Passive Fire Protection

The works were undertaken in line with our IFC third-party certification requirements, providing the client with confidence that the installations were completed by a competent and appropriately trained team.

Third-party certification supports quality, consistency and traceability. It also ensures that firestopping systems are installed using the correct materials, suitable tested details and controlled installation processes.

Firestopping is a life-safety measure, but that does not mean the finish should be untidy. High-quality passive fire protection should be technically compliant, correctly recorded and professionally presented.
